Youth Sport Coaching
Youth sports are more popular than ever. Research shows that children who participate in youth sports reap a myriad of benefits. These include everything from higher self-esteem and confidence, lower rates of depression and anxiety, improved bone health and weight status. Yet, many youth sports are highly specialized and lack foundational strength and conditioning. If you are looking to increase your child’s strength, speed or performance or even looking for a different type of exercise than organized sports, they could benefit from working with a fitness professional.
What is Youth Sports Training?
Strength Training and Conditioning
Young athletes do not necessarily need to lift heavy weights but learning foundational movements such as squats, push-ups, sit-ups and more can help build strength and improve their athletic performance. Most athletes also need to train both aerobically and anerobically to perform at their highest level.
Injury Prevention
With hours of practice and specialization increasing dramatically over the past few years, yough athletes are at risk for injury and burnout. Cross training and adding strength training to athletes programming can help decrease injury and train their bodies and minds in different ways.
SAQ-Speed, Agility and Quickness
Almost all sports incorporate some type of SAQ. Whether athletes are trying to beat their opponent to the ball or get off the blocks as fast as possible, SAQ training is an important part of a well-rounded training program.
Nutrition Education
With almost 20% of US children and adolescents obese or overweight, learning proper nutrition is essential. Coach Sara will help educate both athletes and parents on how to properly fuel their bodies so they can perform their best on and off the field.
Why work with Sara
Sara started coaching young athletes when she was 18 years old as the head coach of a large recreational swim team. Since then Sara has coached kids as young as 4 years old through college level. Sara started and coached the Club Swim Team at High Point University in High Point, North Carolina and has coached recreational soccer in the north metro Denver area for the past 5 years. Sara also currently teaches Weight Training and Cross Training at Front Range Community College and is the Strength and Conditioning Coach for XR Soccer.
Sara is a huge advocate of youth sports but realizes the over emphasis on specialization can lead to injuries and burnout in young athletes. She believes kids should participate in various sports and types of conditioning and training to help with injury prevention and burnout.
